There are various ways to pre buy your Euros and take advantage of a good rate. Generally speaking your bank will not offer the best rate, and Airport kiosks often offer low rates. I find Money Saving Expert are excellent on all things relating to travel including their Travel cash link You can have your money delivered to your home or collect at airport kiosk, at a pre agreed rate, which includes the final price including any charges!
Polis area, recommended Butchers, souvlaki kebab and fresh fishmongers from Tanja, our local Polis correspondent
Sometimes the best shops are just tucked away out of sight so you may find this helpful.
In case anyone needs to know about a good butcher in Polis, you may like to try Pambos Lambides.
From Argaka: Take the left turning just after Giannakis Demetriou Supermarket. Pambos Butchery is there immediately on your right. From other direction: Take the first right turning just before Giannakis Demetriou Supermarket. Pambos Butchery is there immediately on your right.
SOUVLAKI (kebab cooked over charcoal)
If you fancy a good souvlaki kebab, you could try the Argakiko Cafe & Grill in Argaka, just before Fly Again Irish pub, or coming from Polis, it is the other side of Fly Again.
For our Polis clients who enjoy fish on the BBQ, we would like to bring your attention to Fishmarket Psaragora Karamanos, which is frequented by the locals
Sells all sort of fresh fish (sea bass, sea bream, snapper etc) and seafood (mussels, prawns etc).
We would recommend you go there early in the morning, definitely before 1pm, but the earlier the better. This fishmarket is next door to Christian Optical House, which is at the crossroad where the 2 x Polis pharmacies are.
From Argaka to Polis:
Take the coast road back out of Argaka into Polis. Once in Polis, pass the large supermarket PAPANTONIOU on the left, then turn right when both Petrolina petrol station and a big church are on your right. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit (the road where you see a petrol station called Lukoil), then drive straight to the end, where you will see a pharmacy on your left. Now turn right, and Christian Optical House is there in the corner with Karamanos fishmarket next door to it.
Coming from Latchi, take the main road to Polis, drive to the end of the road T junction, turn left. Continue until you have one pharmacy on your right and Christian Optical House on your left. Karamanos fishmarket is next door to the Christian Optical House, on your left.
There is also another Fresh Fish outlet on the main road from Latchi to Polis called Psaragora Vasilis. Coming from Latchi, you will see Prodromi Restaurant on your right., when you start approaching Polis beach. This fishmarket is opposite, on your left, in the same building as a restaurant / taverna.
If you come from Polis, follow the main road between Polis and Latchi, start slowing down when you see Pizza Delicioza on your left and Imported Foods on your right. Fishmarket is on your right opposite Prodromi Restaurant on left. Prodromi Restaurant name is written in English also, but I am not sure if Psaragora Vasilis is, maybe it was only in Greek…
We would welcome your feedback! Many thanks to our Polis correspondent Tanja for finding this information for us. Updated April 2015
Sundance Villas supports Disabled Access Day
Now bi-annual, next one March 2019
Sundance Villas has supported Disabled Access Day since its launch in 2015. It aims to encourage disabled people and their friends and families to visit somewhere new and discover places with great accessibility.
Sundance Villas joins over 200 companies and venues including disabled access review website Euan’s Guide in supporting the day. A wide range of events are taking place including touch tours and captioned film screenings. Previous attractions included Buckingham Palace, Royal Yacht Britannia and the National Theatre, among others.
Commenting on their involvement in Disabled Access Day, Irene Hare Managing Director at Sundance Villas, said: “I appreciate what a nightmare and minefield it can be for disabled holidaymakers to find Truly accessible villa rentals. This is why I helped design Villa Ampelitis from scratch. It has level access, wet rooms, profiling bed, pool hoist and moveable hoist, and a beautiful private heated indoor pool which can be used 24 hours. Pool heating and central heating is available. This property also has 2 wheelchair accessible studios, bookable only to you the renter. Our rates are reasonable and I can offer a discount on 14 night + bookings at villas Ampelitis and Timily.” Just quote “Disabled Access Day”.
Kiki MacDonald, Co-Founder of lead sponsor Euan’s Guide, said: “Promoting good disabled access is at the core of what we do, so this campaign is close to our hearts. By hosting events and offering promotions to visitors on January 17th, all of the partners involved can demonstrate just how important disabled access is to them.”

About Disabled Access Day
Disabled Access Day is all about getting out and visiting a venue that you’ve never been to before – whether a cinema, coffee shop, sports centre or anywhere else. Disabled Access Day is asking disabled people and their friends and families to visit or book somewhere that they’ve never been before.
Even though Cyprus is often enjoying lovely sunny weather approaching mid December, often with temperatures around 22 degrees, there is still Christmas Spirit in the air in Paphos! And yes the cheeky pelican is still at Paphos harbour!
Streets, shops and houses have been decorated and various Christmas fairs and Markets are held over the next weeks. Many tavernas and bars light their fireplaces for the evenings, making it really cosy.
In general Christmas is celebrated for around 12 days in Cyprus starting from the 24th of December until the feast of Epiphany on 6th of January.
After the long 40 days of fasting, Cypriots celebrate the birth of Christ in style with lovely food such as stuffed turkey, roast lamb, chicken and pork, not forgetting the nice sweets such as kourabiedes (small almond cakes coated in icing sugar) or Melomakarona (honey cookies with walnuts).
Children in Cyprus have to wait until News Year´s Day to receive their presents, as this is the day of Agios Vasilis (St. Basil), the Greek Santa Claus. On New Year’s Eve the families get together, enjoy a lovely dinner and at midnight the VASILOPITA (cake with a coin inside) is cut and shared with all family members. The one who finds the coin will be lucky all year.
Over the Christmas period pomegranates are eaten and also used for decoration. This fruit symbolizes joyous times, good fortune, fertility and prosperity.
In December there is often a Christmas Farmers & Crafters Market Pano Akourdalia (near our Villa Quardia) or the Christmas Street Fair on Makarios Avenue in Pafos, just to mention two of various Christmas events in the Pafos area.
If you are now interested in spending Christmas or New Year in Cyprus have a look at our Winter Villas . These selected villas are suitable for a comfortable stay during cooler winter months. Our 5 x Argaka Beach villas, Coral Bay beach villa Kingfisher, and Lysos village stone house villa Nicolas ALL have underfloor heating which is well worth the outlay. Villa Ampelitis has central heating available and pool heating, and some logs will be supplied too! Read a Christmas Review here “Memorable Christmas at Villa Ampelitis with a heated pool and snow at Troodos mountains“. Ask Irene for more info.
For more information of What’s On and bars and tavernas with fireplaces, please ask Nicole or Neoptolemos, your Representatives
A lot of clients book a B&B or hotel for one night or two nights, and then they occupy the villa at the earliest time of 16.00 as they are there in Cyprus.

Did you know there is a secret beach about 200m before Paphos Airport? And there are beach 2 bar/tavernas there with WC right on the beach, and you can park right next to them so you can see your luggage filled car. This beach is known as “Timi” but as there is another Timi beach nearby, turn right off the B6 into the airport approach road, drive for 2 or 3 km and you will see the sea close on your left with these 2 places visible, BEFORE a wood on the left. There was a Macdonalds sign here near where you turn.
If your late flight is Monday through to Saturday, then we recommend Costa’s Tavern, en route to Paphos airport, on the right of the B6 at KOLONI. You need to book and the meze is excellent, and if you have hours to kill, ask them to bring the food very slowly. www.costastavern.eu Tel 26 961774 or mobile 99 175807. Currently open evenings only.
Of course we recommend Tramps and Costa’s anyway, not just for late flight:-)
Horse Riding in Paphos, Cyprus
Why not include some horseriding in your holiday? The feedback is good at these ranches.
The LOVE of horses from owner Mrs.Marlene (Mob.:00357-99788287) is obvious at rural Amargeti Equestrian Club. Anarita/Paphos www.amargetihorseriding.com firstname.lastname@example.org They now offer long day hacks including lunch with wine for example: 5-6 hour hack (with a half way 1 hour or so Cypriot food taverna lunch break) to nearby a village called Choulou through the various country side trails. The hack is easy without galloping and is offered on a first come first serve basis October to June on any day of the week except Monday. It would start around 9.30 AM. Minimum amount of riders:2 persons. Cost: around euro 100 each rider (tentative, we still need to agree the lunch rates with the taverna).
Closed Monday. 25000 sq m of tracks. Beautiful rural location, worth a visit if only to take a peek. Recommended. Villa Ampelitis is nearby (2 person/2 adult + up to 2 children rates available).
You will find more information on the General Information that we send to you prior to holiday.
Fish meze: Arsinoe Tavern
Arsinoe Fish Tavern. 3 Griva Digeni Street, Polis 8820. They catch their own fish, personal service. Located next to small church in Polis Square in Griva Digeni in the pedestrian area of the old town, looks plain from outside but it’s a hidden gem. Tel nos: 26321590, 99512037 , 26 321085 Evenings only. Many of our clients are recommending this tavern
Review by Louis and Sarah, August 2014:
This evening we went for a Fish Meze at Arsinoe Fish Tavern in the old town of Polis, which had been recommended to us. We arrived at 6:30 and were told that they did not open until 7. At 7:30 we returned and just got a table due to the Cypriots having pre booked. Luckily the owner made an effort and got a spare table from somewhere and set it out especially for us. The owner told us that the fish of the day had been caught by his father-in-law hours ago and that all the fish they served were freshly caught that day. He also invited us to have a look at them before ordering.
Every dish was delicious and the one that stood out was the sword fish which was by far the best we have ever tasted.
For such a reasonable price (36 Euros all in, 2 persons) the food was amazing. For this price we had; a glass of house white wine, a large Keo beer and the meze which consisted of; a fish soup, a large salad, dips and pitta bread, cous cous, octopus, sardines, prawns, mussels, crab, sword fish, chips, calamari and a large plate of fried whole fish.
We would recommend booking as by 7:45 people were being turned away. Some of the staff speak limited English so booking in person at the restaurant is advised. This is where your Sundance Villas Representative will come in handy, they will be pleased to pre book a table for you.

Some of our clients recently held their wedding at Pegeia Town Hall, which has attractive outside space for photos. They said it was fantastic, they couldn’t have asked for more, nice and simple, could take their own music cd and was quick! As they had children they held their reception at nearby Pafos Zoo. There are many videos on youtube of these locations, or why not come out using a cheap flight and low cost villa, and take a look!
Simon Holley organises weddings and birthday parties etc. He decorated the tables beautifully and the food was excellent. He organised a cake for them last minute, that was both delicious and in keeping with their themes/colours. They could have their photos taken wherever they wanted and with whatever animals they liked.
So they now have some impressive photos which most people think are photographers backgrounds and screens and tricks!
This scenery is real! Agios Georgios beach at sunset. Beautiful!
Thanks to Jodie and Chris for sharing your beautiful photos with us.
