Spotlight on Kathikas

Kathikas is a small, traditional village, one of the oldest in Cyprus. It is well worth a visit to have a wander around or to stop for lunch or dinner. Many of it’s buildings are over a century old and have been preserved in excellent condition.  In the square we see the Cypriot men in the coffee shops, playing backgammon, or just discussing the news, whilst the swallows swoop overhead around the church. Kathikas offers peace and tranquility, and is easily reached from Paphos (23 km) or Polis.

The small donkey sanctuary is situated on the edge of the village (E709) and is worth a visit. It is on the edge of a dramatic gorge, don’t miss it!

Kathikas is one of the wine making villages of the Paphos region. The local wineries include Sterna, Vasilikon, Fikardos, Tsangarides and Kamanterena. They all offer wine tasting and tours.

Locals travel for miles to participate in the Greek Orthodox Easter traditions in Kathikas, and visitors are welcome to watch.

Kathikas is home to three of our favourite restaurants in all of Paphos, and they are quite different to each other. They are all popular with locals as well as tourists:

  • Yiannis Tavern has a weekly live music night with buffet for 16 euro. They also serve one of the best Meze’s in Cyprus with exceptional halloumi cheese and sheftalia. Here is a photo of Lauren, Irene, Neoptolemos and George (our Vineyard Villas Owner) attempting to dance off the calories after yet another wonderful evening at Yiannis Tavern. +357 26 633353
  • Imogen’s Inn specialise in all Cypriot homemade cooking and our clients love their vegetarian meze (middle photo), which needs to be pre-booked. They have a varied menu and daily specials ie, how does this sound: Papoutsakia (split aubergines with tasty mince topped with parmazana bechamel.  +357 26 633269
  • To Stekki Tou Panai is run by Maria. It is small and relaxing here, and they pride themselves on traditional Cypriot food, all locally sourced. It is situated at the side of the church. You can hand pick dishes for your own meze.  + 357 96771622 (vegetarian meze must be pre-booked).

Our 3 beautiful and affordable 4 bedroom 4 bathroom villas are situated just a few minutes walk from these tavernas, no need to drive! So if eating out is what makes your holiday, as it does ours, consider a stay in this chilled out village! We think that these villas are perfect for rest and relaxation, and recharging your batteries.

These villas are also fantastic for large parties as 2 villas will sleep up to 16 persons and 3 villas will sleep up to 24 persons.

We have Vineyard Grove, Vineyard View (10% discount for 2 persons) and Vineyard Breeze.

Here are the links to our videos for these amazing properties – Vineyard Grove/Vineyard View and Vineyard Breeze.

Another exciting new addition for Kathikas is that it now has a petrol station! If you come out of the main entrance to the village and turn right and then it is about 100 metres down on the left right near another of your favourites Fitos Souvlakia! This restaurant is a little gem, incredibly popular with the locals and the food is fantastic. (Cash only). +357 26 632965
